RAM Oval Track
Couplers
Compact, Lightweight Clutch Systems
The cone clutch provides the initial engagement to get the vehicle
moving when the pedal is depressed. Positive lock-up is achieved when
the pedal is released and the splined cone engages the splined top
plate. The RAM coupler is just 5 pounds and 4 fl inches in diameter -
about the size of the crank flange itself! RAM recommends the coupler
be used in vehicles under 2600 pounds.
Here's how it works:
- Neutral is the pedal midpoint, when the direct drive is
disengaged but before the cone cutch re-engages.
- The tapered steel cone meets the tapered metallic lining to form
a clutch for initial movement.
- Once the vehicle is moving, the pedal is released and the direct
drive gears are engaged.
- Use a standard release bearings, cable, hydraulics or internal
bearing with at least 1/2 inch travel.
- The coupler bolts directly to the crank sandwiching your
automatic flexplate.
